Old things--New way

When our kids were younger (and so were we!) we would be invited to sing several times a year, as a family, at different events. This was usually in a hundred mile area from our home, but occasionally we would expand beyond that. Almost always it would be at a church function. As the kids grew older, and as other things in life happened, we were doing this less and less until it became very RARE for us to sing at church or anywhere else.
Recently the church we are attending planned a 4th of July celebration and asked us to sing for it. Kevin and Cory were the closest ,and only ones available, to help us out. The theme was "Patriotism/Freedom" and we were asked to include a time for the audience to sing along. Cory practiced with us, but when it came time to sing she felt like she wasn't confident enough about her 'part' ,the songs were all new to her, to sing with us. So it was just Kevin, Ron, and Me. Kevin and Ron had a request to sing "The Lighthouse", then we did "The Statue of Liberty", and "I'm Free" then led the audience in "Amazing Grace", "God Bless America", and "America the Beautiful" . Two teens from church had done a skit about "In God We Trust" as our country's motto; and our friend from Warsaw, Bob Smith, had played his guitar and sang, too. It was great fun and a blessing to do this. ( Ron had already been asked to play piano a few times for the worship service.) We will see what God might have in store for the future.

Keith is 45!

My how time flies! It is hard for me to believe that it has been 45 years since I first held my first baby in my arms! He was so cute and tiny with long "white blonde" hair.
He is still good looking, but no one would consider him "tiny" now, and his hair is kept crew-cut short. He says he keeps it that way to 'discourage' all of the curls and because he has grown used to it this way after 20+ years in the Air Force. I also think it might have something to do with all of the gray that would show!
I talked with Keith tonight. Ron and I called him and sang "Happy Bithday" to him. He seemed to be tickled about that. He said life is 'busy' for him. They keep active in events at church, and doing 'family' stuff with their 2 young boys: Joel and Philip. Joel is playing baseball again this summer. I told Keith I would like to have a dollar for every ball game I had watched he and his brothers and sister AND Dad {and grandkids, too!] play over the years. I would have a "nice chunk of change"!

Learning new things.

I always thought this would be so HARD, but it isn't, really. Sometimes you need to let someone talk you into trying something new. Of course ,you have to be careful and use your head about it! Let's face it though, sometimes we talk ourselves out of trying something different because we lose our security of "the known" and it is a little scary out there in the "unknown"!
I don't know how often I will get to this, but I intend to TRY and write something on a regular basis. So, here's to new things, and the people who encourage us to try them!
